Obscura Mondo Lime Tree Cinema

The cinema was created by gallery owner David Wilson at the Lime Tree. It is a place to showcase the weird and wonderful side of cinema, with lesser known, alternative movies shown from all over the world. The cinema will run for 12 weeks over the winter period, from October to Januray each Thursday night!

Thursday is cinema night, with the film beginning at 7:00 pm. The Cinema can seat up to sixty persons. Projection is by a Digital DLP Projector, and we have a Bowers and Wilkins seven channel sound system. The Cinema is registered with the British Film Institute and Filmbank Media who provide our copyright license. The space holds a current Premises License for Cinema performance.
We are fully licensed to sell alcohol and other drinks from our bar.

We offer a free membership scheme; members pay £5.00 a ticket rather than the full price of £7.50, and are the first to hear news and offers about the cinema with our newsletter.

We are also offering a special pre cinema menu in our restaurant. This is served from 5 – 6 pm, and has a choice of 2 courses for only £19.95, which includes cinema admission. Booking is essential.

Information about upcoming films and joining the member’s scheme can be found on the cinema website – www.obscuramondo.co.uk.

Fort William Councillor Andrew Baxter welcomed the development and said

'This is a fantastic initiative and I hope it receives the support it deserves. My wife and I both enjoy foreign indie films, so I am hoping childcare allowing we'll be able to sneak along to some of the film nights. '

David said

'I think it's over ten years since the cinema closed in Fort William. I know I miss going to the cinema. There is something special about going out to see a film and because our cinema in the Fort closed we miss so many great films. This cinema will show films from around the world of cinema. We've got a wide range of films for our first season from Iranian Taxi Movies to Indian love stories. What we can offer is comfortable viewing of unusual digital films an excellent sound system and carefully chosen award winning films to enjoy the weird and wonderful world of cinema.'

' I hope we build up a loyal local membership to keep cinema going alive in Fort William. The first season is a wee leap into the dark but I'm confident the experience will be great fun'
